The Oi collective return with a second helping of feisty, forthright, fist pumping anthems!
Originally started as a side project during the Covid pandemic, On The Huh have developed into a real powerhouse on the Punk scene. Their debut album ‘Bit On The Side‘ came out in 2023, leading to many shows and festival appearances in the UK and Europe, including Rebellion Punk Festival.
Fortunately, lead vocalist Sloss (Braindance), guitarist Chris (Infa Riot), bassist Dave (Special Duties) and drummer Tom (Infa Riot) have managed to fit recording another album into their busy schedules, and the appropriately named ‘Second Time Around‘ is ready to be unleashed upon the world!
It’s clear where On The Huh are headed with opener ‘On Our Own Way‘ – “We’re down the pub with out mates on Saturday” – in this riff-tastic tune! The workplace has too many rules, according to ‘Elf N Safety‘, as the “mad dictator” pretty much stops us getting anything done. There’s nostalgia in ‘Class Of 65‘, a melodic homage to the original Mods from the 1960s and the youth culture which influenced the rebels and the Punk and Oi subcultures:
It’s the frustrating story of parent-child conflict in ‘Generation Apart‘, and a jocular tale of that rock ‘n’ roll loser we all know in ‘Sussed You Out’, which will make you chuckle. On The Huh reflect upon ageing in ‘Can’t Be Arsed‘ – “Now you’re fast asleep with the radio still on!”
The festival crowds will enjoy singing along with ‘Don’t Wanna Be Like You‘, a song written about those who turn their backs on the people they grew up with to join the ‘authorities’, remorselessly inflicting violence upon us when ordered to do so.. Putting the ‘Queen Of Sleaze‘ on a pedestal isn’t a good idea – “She’ll cut you with a knife for kicks” and cause you more problems.. I love the positive call for unity against the scourge of workers’ oppression in ‘Stand‘; this fight is far from over.
Of course On The Huh had to include an ode to the great British ‘Fry Up‘ – on the way to the match via the local ‘greasy spoon’! There’s a stompin’ cover vesrion too – ‘Your Old Man‘, originally released by Cyanide back in 1979 – now bang up to date with formidable guitars and modern production. The bell rings for closing time on ‘Spirit Unbroken’, a rousing sing-along where, no matter what, your mates will be with you until the end.
Video of ‘Fry Up‘ taken at the band’s gig at The Malt Shovel in Pontefract on 25th October this year:
With a solid Rock‘n’Roll foundation underpinning On The Huh‘s street punk sound, this is an skilfully produced second record. For a feel-good, friendly, fun album you won’t find much better – it’s a night down the pub in lyrics, notes and riffs! Grab yourself a beer and join the lads around their traditional pub table again..
‘Second Time Around‘ is available to order on black, red and camo splatter vinyl from Sunny Bastards Records, and from independent retailers. Grab a copy on CD from the band at their shows, and on Digital release from your favourite streaming service!

Usually found jumping around down the front at gigs, I also relish taking photos and videos, singing, speaking with fellow music fans, and asking musicians the questions nobody else does. Writing about my favourite bands and connecting with people who love music too keeps me more-or-less sane! I’ve worked for over 25 years at a video production company, mainly filming live music events, therefore I have an additional backstage perspective on the scene.
