Album review: Nervous Twitch – ‘The Day Job Gets In The Way’

By Alex Goose November 12, 2025

It’s the sixth album from Leeds trio Nervous Twitch, who combine the urgency of first-wave punk with jangly power-pop melodies that wouldn’t sound out of place on a C86 compilation. They’re doing more or less what they’ve always done, true, but they’re doing it very well.Continue Reading

Album review: The Hyperjax – ‘Scars On The Horizon’

By Alex Goose November 10, 2025

Nearly 30 years into their existence, and still bursting with youthful energy; we’d love to know The Hyperjax’s secret. This is the Preston trio’s sixth album, and whilst it’s hardly a departure from their signature sound, it’s comforting to realise once again that - in an increasingly uncertain world - you can rely on The Hyperjax to bring the tunes, the energy, and then some.Continue Reading

Interview: Alex catches up with Andy Mansell of Barriers and RAD

By Alex Goose October 14, 2025

Just when we started thinking we were a productive bunch at Punktuation, we encountered Andy Mansell, who fronts not one, but two excellent bands - melodic hardcore merchants Barriers and razor-sharp crossover thrashers RAD (whose debut EP, ‘Toxic Slime’, we reviewed earlier this year). How does he do it? Read our interview with the man himself and find out!Continue Reading

Shake Some Acton gig #116, Harrow Trinity Bar, 25th Sep 2025

By Alex Goose September 26, 2025

The Let’s Go’s are pure musical joy. From the moment they kick off with the euphoric pop-punk rush of ‘In My Head’, the Japanese trio bounce around the stage with carefree abandon; they clearly love what they do, and it’s as if they can hardly believe that they’re so far from home and still drawing a decent crowd.Continue Reading

The Drowns, London Black Heart, 23rd Sep 2025

By Alex Goose September 24, 2025

In terms of prime-quality blue collar punk n’ roll played with maximum passion, this takes us right back to seeing Social Distortion at the Astoria (RIP) twenty-odd years ago - it was a triumphant return for Mike Ness’s crew, and should he be looking to pass the torch to a new generation, The Drowns are absolutely ready to take it.Continue Reading

Album review: TV Death – ‘Neon Dreamland’

By Alex Goose September 17, 2025

In truth, to label TV Death as merely a garage rock group would be to do them a disservice; they also take influence from psychedelia, post-punk, and just about all things loud and feral. The end result makes for one hell of a debut album.Continue Reading

Shake Some Acton gig #112, London Hope & Anchor, 9th Sep 2025

By Alex Goose September 10, 2025

Teo Wise and his band have come all the way from Italy, and from the start, it’s clear that they’re having a ball, with the main man brandishing his Flying V guitar like some kind of rock n roll rifle. Self-described as ‘spaghetti rock n’ roll’, he blends elements of punk, rock n’ roll and new wave with Italian-language lyrics.Continue Reading

Interview: Alex gets to know UK punk trio Everyone Lies

By Alex Goose September 9, 2025

Miss the glory days of Epitaph and Fat Wreck Chords-style skate punk? It's safe to say that Southampton trio Everyone Lies do too, as they're doing a great job of breathing new life into the genre. They're about to release a new EP, 'Web Of Lies', and we caught up with the band for a chat ahead of their Salisbury launch gig and London show with The Drowns.Continue Reading

EP review: Club Brat – ‘4 Songs’

By Alex Goose September 8, 2025

Sure, there are elements of great bands like Fugazi, Refused, At The Drive-In and Les Savy Fav, but Club Brat have taken those influences and fearlessly fed them through a meat grinder, resulting in four tracks that sound at once familiar and like no-one else around.Continue Reading

Live review: WitchDoktors, Kingston Fighting Cocks, 5th Sep 2025

By Alex Goose September 6, 2025

Of all the many great punk and rock n’ roll bands that Witchdoktors recall, Rocket From The Crypt are forefront in our minds tonight; not just because the riff from ‘Neck Tattoo’ resembles that of the San Diego crew’s 90s hit ‘On A Rope’, but also because these guys are showmen through and through.Continue Reading
