Album review: Dutch Punks Mouser release self-titled debut LP

Four veteran punks release seven songs on the fascist threat, plastic surgery, greedy billionaires, football, and more..

From Delft, the Netherlands, comes Punk band Mouser! They are not to be confused with the band of the same name from Athens in the USA. Dutch band Mouser are: Léon Brok – vocals and guitar, Bas Beijersbergen – guitar and backing vocals, Sander van Rhijn aka Sander Rednas – bass and backing vocals, and Marcel Oord – drums. They call their music “old school punk” and say they write fast, to-the-point,  catchy, sharp, sometimes very short songs, with uncompromising lyrics which expose our derailed society.

Bas told me that in the early 1980s he had rehearsed with my band Cheap ‘n’ Nasty. He later played with  the late Andrea, bassist of Cheap ‘n’ Nasty and Miami Beach Girls, and drummer Syama of The Lou’s and Miami Beach Girls.

Mouser was started a few years ago by Bas and Léon. Sander joined later. Then, a drummer joined but unfortunately, after their first gig, he died of heart failure. Then, Bas broke his neck and had to recover – and COVID came – so Mouser stopped for a few years. After the pandemic lessened, the band re-started with new drummer, Marcel.

In 2025, their first EP ‘¡No Pasarán!’ was released. It was recorded in Patrick Delabie‘s Studio 195, in  Wernhout, Belgium, in 2024. Now, their new record is out, a 12-inch mini-LP and first ever 12-inch vinyl platter simply named ‘Mouser’, which was again recorded at Studio 195. The release is a bit later than planned, as the pressing plant Mouser had in mind went bankrupt, and they had to have the records pressed elsewhere. The title picture and the band photo above by Lynn Heirman show Mouser playing live at the presentation of their album at Wolbodo in Delft on 18th September 2026.

The anti-fascist lyrics of their first EP continue in the song ‘The New Nazis‘. Relevant, at a time when Putin’s fascist adviser Alexander Dugin incites against Ukrainian civilians and against Pussy Riot, who he calls ‘immoral girls’. Dugin bases himself on Italian fascist ideologist Julius Evola, the translator when Hitler and Mussolini met. Relevant, at the time of a Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in the USA, where, after Hitler and Franco decades ago and Elon Musk months ago, Mexican far-rightist Eduardo Verástegui and Trump adviser Steve Bannon concluded their speeches with the ‘Roman’ salute (nothing to do with ancient Romans) of Mussolini. That salute was too open even for CPAC conference participant, the French National Front leader Jordan Bardella, who prefers camouflage in nazism. So, he was rather embarrassed when his anti-Semitic views were revealed recently.

Here is the video of the shortest album track, 14-second song ‘Cruyff Is Dead‘, dedicated to the late Hendrik Johannes Cruijff, professional football player and manager, regarded as one of the greatest players in history and as the greatest Dutch footballer ever:

This is the video of the latest single from the album, ‘Every Day‘, the only love song on the album. It’s still an old skool Punk banger though!

If you’re a fan of original punk, you’ll love ‘Mouser‘!

Mouser will play live at the SurfPunk Massacre IV concert in Utrecht on 13 December 2026 – TICKETS
