Nu-Punk BEX drops the latest single off her soon-to-be-released EP 'SCUM' and announces new tour dates for November
UK-based Nu-punk BEX has released a vibrant celebration of individuality and chosen family with her new single ‘Filfy’. As she says, it’s “about coming together with people who are like-minded, having spent your life not fitting in because of how you look, dress, act, the music you listen to, your sexuality, your ethnicity… Filfy is a track about finding your home when you least expect it.
“Down in the dirt is where your group is, your chosen family – this chosen family is what you were looking for since day one. In a society where you feel useless & like you have no role, it can be in the strangest places that you find YOUR PLACE. We don’t have to abide by the system, we can make our own system, our own bubble inside the world where we are safe to express ourselves, our views and be who we want to be. People who were once strangers can become your family.” The BEX-directed music video sees her breaking free from mundane everyday life to find her place within that all-important chosen family.
A massive rock fan herself, citing influences including System of a Down, The Pretty Reckless, Rage Against The Machine and Paramore, as the 2020 lockdowns started to bite, BEX honed her creativity and vision from her student bedroom.
A disciple of big riffs, she picked up a bass guitar and found that everything sounded better when you played it lower down. With an innate sense of what makes her generation tick and the problems facing the world today, she started out by uploading self-filmed bass covers of her favourite riffs, dressed in her self-designed clothes (made, stitched, and sewn by her). BEX is always intent on taking her creativity to the next level and beyond as is evident in her diverse and prolific audio, visual and wearable creations.
Having torn festival stages to shreds at 2000trees and Y Not? this summer, BEX is looking ahead to further live performances including Misery Loves Company in Bristol on 30th September and her first ever headline tour of the UK in November! As well as proving herself an innovative and accomplished songwriter with the collection of tracks she’s released so far, live is where BEX thrives.
