We're excited to bring you the Joyless Jones v Griff Griffiths remix of last year's hit - '54-46'!
Punktuation Magazine is proud to present for your listening pleasure the Pete ‘Joyless’ Jones remix of Griff Griffiths‘ version of Toots and The Maytals ‘54-56‘ which was first released last year, reaching number No.1 in various charts in the UK and Europe. ‘Joyless’ Jones is a prolific British bassist, songwriter, and producer known for his work with bands like Public Image Limited (PiL) and Department S, as well as his own projects.
Originally recorded at Sunshine Corner Studios and produced by Smiley Barnard, the video, directed by Ian Carley, features GRIFF’s band mate Billy Whissel (Circa 79) on opening vocals, the legendary Brighton clothes emporium Quadrophenia Alley, plus cameo appearances from Witchdoktors, The TR5s, Alan Clayton (The Dirty Strangers), Johny Copp (Love Parade), Lloyd Grey (Ghosts – The Spirit Of The Jam), The Hornets, Paul Bone (Quadrophenia Alley) and Michele with one ‘L’.
Joyless has created a mellow groove supplemented with his dub-tastic bass lines to give this track a laid-back, head-bobbing new sound, even including Griff’s distinctive chuckle at the end! We love it – check out the video NOW:

Usually found jumping around down the front at gigs, I also relish taking photos and videos, singing, speaking with fellow music fans, and asking musicians the questions nobody else does. Writing about my favourite bands and connecting with people who love music too keeps me more-or-less sane! I’ve worked for over 25 years at a video production company, mainly filming live music events, therefore I have an additional backstage perspective on the scene.
