The Great Interrupter releases a cover of Toots & The Maytals' '54-46'
Follow-up single to their December hit ‘Christmas Smile’, Griff & Michele with one ‘L’ return with a cover of the 1968 Ska/Rocksteady/Reggae classic ‘54-46’, by Toots and The Maytals. ‘54-46‘ was one of the first reggae songs to receive widespread popularity outside of Jamaica, and is seen as being one of the defining songs of the genre.
This new version is a collaboration between Rock Radio UK/New Dawn FM DJ/author/musician Griff Griffiths, Michele ‘with one L’, and producer Steve ‘Smiley’ Barnard, who comes with real pedigree (Robbie Williams, Joe Strummer, Gene Loves Jezebel, Mike Peters, Tony Visconti) and was recorded at Smiley’s Sunshine Corner Studios.

A plethora of guest vocalists join Griff & Michele on the track, from the worlds of Mod/Ska/Punk/Rock; Witchdoktors, Sharp Class, Chords UK, AKA The Syndicate, Ghosts (Spirit Of The Jam), The Vulz, The Dirty Strangers, Johnny Copp, Dear Boys, Billy Whissel (Circa79), Damien Madisson and The Hornets:
The single will be released as part of a new red vinyl EP, which also includes the dynamic duo’s previous singles; ‘Christmas Smile‘, ‘Gogo Coco‘ and ‘I Had A Dream‘. Released digitally on 30th March, the EP will soon be available on limited edition 12″ red vinyl via Sounds of the Suburbs record store (drop them a message via Facebook to reserve your copy, or email: soundsofthesuburbs@yahoo.co.uk) and you can download it digitally HERE

The new single ‘54-46‘ is now in the New Dawn Radio revival chart voting pool – when ‘Christmas Smile‘ hit No.1, Griff & Michele presented their Christmas Eve show totally stark naked to celebrate!! What will they do if ’54-46’ gets to the top spot, we wonder..?

Truly, Real Life Presents has been on a roll recently, with a week of great hardcore shows now coming to a close with a beast
Usually found jumping around down the front at gigs, I also relish taking photos and videos, singing, speaking with fellow music fans, and asking musicians the questions nobody else does. Writing about my favourite bands and connecting with people who love music too keeps me more-or-less sane! I’ve worked for over 25 years at a video production company, mainly filming live music events, therefore I have an additional backstage perspective on the scene.
