"It’s Christmas time, share the love around" - here's a little cracker for you!
A song celebrating happiness and joy at Christmas time, ‘Christmas Smile’ is a true Christmas earworm, whether you like it or not!
The Phil Spector-esque wall of sound with a 60’s Mod culture feel, including cheeky nods to the Beatles – as John said, “it’s all you need, YEAH YEAH YEAH” – Wham, and even Mud, this song is a collaboration between DJ/Author/musician/comedian Griff Griffiths, Michele ‘with one L’ (co-host of Griff’s drive time radio show on New Dawn FM), and Steve ‘Smiley’ Barnard.
‘Smiley’, who co-wrote and produced ‘Christmas Smile’, comes with real pedigree, being Robbie Williams drummer during the ‘Life thru a Lens’ era. A little later he played with Clash legend Joe Strummer in The Mescaleros. He has collaborated with various other bands and musicians, including, Gene Loves Jezebel, and Mike Peters The Alarm. Since the beginning of 2022, Barnard has been playing in the band Holy Holy, performing the music of David Bowie, alongside Tony Visconti.
It’s fantastic to see so many special guests involved in the accompanying festive fun packed video. From comedians to Rock ‘n’ Rollers, capturing the spirit of Christmas perfectly, sharing love and happiness!
Guests include BAFTA award winning Comedian/Actor Joe Wilkinson, former England cricketer & Sky Sports presenter Mark Butcher, Self-styled ‘German Comedy Ambassador in London’ comedian Henning Wehn and even Chesney Hawkes!
Bands include – Gaye Bykers on Acid, Explode The TV, Cocksparrer, The Alarm, Wingmen, Johnny Moped, Ruts DC, JoJo & the Teeth, Menace, Urban Voodoo Machine, The Chords UK, The Glorias, The Vulz, The Dirty Strangers, and The Priscillas.
So, sit back with your glass of mulled wine and mince pie, and enjoy star-spotting while you watch the fabulous video to this cheery song!
Currently at no. 6 in the New Dawn FM Revival Chart, Griff AND Michele will present their Christmas Eve show in their ‘sexy’ Christmas underwear if it breaks the top 5.. and if they get to the no.1 slot, they will be presenting the show NAKED!! So come on you naughty elves, get voting for ‘Christmas Smile‘ on the official Chart page HERE!

Usually found jumping around down the front at gigs, I also relish taking photos and videos, singing, speaking with fellow music fans, and asking musicians the questions nobody else does. Writing about my favourite bands and connecting with people who love music too keeps me more-or-less sane! I’ve worked for over 25 years at a video production company, mainly filming live music events, therefore I have an additional backstage perspective on the scene.
