LOUD WOMEN stage smashers from Yorkshire give us the 'Payday' we were waiting for...
There is something going down in Yorkshire at the moment, and they go by the name of goo. Based in Keighley, this 4-piece outfit have been releasing music and gigging their way through the UK and Europe since 2022. Probably best known for their song, ‘Call In Sick’, they have even garnered the interest of the BBC along the way, which culminated in them recording a 3-song live session for BBC Introducing:
They also incidentally played a triumphant set at last year’s Rebellion festival in Blackpool, on the brilliant LOUD WOMEN stage. ‘Payday‘ is the lead single from the band’s new album, and that particular long player will be with us by next summer. In the meantime, this 3-track EP should get us through the winter months nicely. The band consists of:

Just in case you were wondering what type of music influences a band like goo, they treat us to a third and final track, in the form of ‘What Do I Get?’ by Buzzcocks. Recorded at goo‘s rehearsal space and mixed by James Bragg, you really wouldn’t notice that they are not in a fully functioning studio. goo play a faithful cover of this punk classic, and really do it justice:
goo are a hard band to pin down musically, but if you enjoy your indie rock with a dash of punk rock, then this could be your band! If the rest of the album is as good as this single, then surely you’re onto a winner.

I have been writing reviews for Brighton & Hove News, and more recently Vive Le Rock magazine for a few years now. Previously, I could be spotted playing drums for many a band over the decades. A noisy habit developed whilst wearing short trousers at school, and one that has had me touring around the UK and Europe. Punk rock is my life, but I am also quite eclectic. I am an avid gig go-er and music devourer, and can feel out of sorts if a gig date is not on the horizon. I have also been known to put gigs on myself in order to fill those gaps.
