Punk meets techno, what a surprising yet enjoyable combination!
Brighton-based band Dunce are not the same as your typical punk band. They have some similarities to Primus and Warmduscher, so the punk element is there for sure, but they also have a techno spin to their music! Initially formed back in 2022, they recently released their latest EP, ‘Penis Fly Trap’ on 25th April 2025. This EP consists of four tracks; all are unique and very different..
Meet Dunce:
Steve Scott – Vocals and guitar
Laurence Ford – Drums
Chris Blake – Bass
This band are certainly unusual with their punk meets techno sound! Surprisingly, it actually works quite well, I was pleasantly shocked! From the Oi! first song ‘Moobs’ to the swinging, jazzy instrumental ‘Flounder Trounce’, this EP reminds me of something that would be played in TV show The Mighty Boosh.
‘Penis Fly Trap’ is unique, enjoyable, and even has some headbanging moments in ‘Fathers Day’. Each song lasts longer than the previous number, and you can imagine yourself being in a room full of colourful punks. If you’re interested in giving punk meets techno a chance, then give this EP a go, and listen for yourself. Streaming HERE
