Two tremendous front women set the city ablaze with their sonic assaults!
It is always a raw, sweat-soaked and utterly uncompromising night when The Baboon Show and The Headlines join forces. To put these two explosive, high energy bands on the same bill for the seven date Swedish leg of the ‘Be a Baboon’ tour proves to be a master stroke, which is cemented with tonight’s closing date of the tour in the sold out Mejeriet.
The Headlines confidently take the stage and launch straight into their set with ‘Homewrecker’, demonstrating the kind of urgency that makes it clear this is going to be loud, fast, and unapologetically alive and in-your-face. Their sound is rooted in classic punk energy but with a modern edge to it. It’s polished and tight yet never loses that raw, DIY spirit. The songs come one after another with barely a pause, creating a relentless momentum that keeps the crowd locked in.
Kerry Bomb’s vocals really stand out in a live setting. There’s a gritty clarity to her voice that cuts like a knife through the wall of sound, carrying both melody and attitude in equal measures aplenty. She doesn’t just sing the songs – she delivers them with conviction, pacing the stage, locking eyes with the audience, and engaging everyone to become part the performance. There’s a sense that every lyric matters. Crowd pleasers like ‘Punk Rock Radio’, ‘F**ked Up’ and ‘Pirate Signal’ are mercilessly lined up back-to-back – there’s no time for the enthusiastic crowd to catch their breath!
Pete Rasmusen’s driving drums together with Sofie Ward’s basslines that keep everything grounded, leaving space for Jake Lundtofte and Peter Henriksson’s sharp melodic guitar riffs to shine end excel. The band bide their goodbye with ‘Warpaint‘/’Authority’ leaving us all soaked in sweat. The Headlines do not simply warm up their audience; they transform them in preparation of what will come next.
After a short interval, the lights are dimmed and a welcoming roar that feels both instinctive and collective rises; the kind of reaction that cannot be manufactured. If The Headlines ignited the spark, The Baboon Show turn it into an uncontrollable blaze in their first ever show in Lund. From the very first note of ‘Be a Baboon’, the energy is relentless – loud, fast and fiercely alive. There is no gradual build-up here; instead, they launch straight into a sonic assault that demands total attention.
The Baboon Show’s presence is commanding, but it is front woman Cecilia Boström who truly dominates the space. With magnetic, charisma and an almost fearless physicality, she moves effortlessly between the stage and the crowd, climbing barriers, reaching out and pulling people in, whilse bass player Frida Ståhl and guitar slinger Simon Dahlberg urge both her and the crowd on in a way that makes the barrier between stage and floor to dissolve. ‘You Got a Problem Without Knowing it’, ‘Rolling’, ‘Class War’ and ‘Radio Rebelde’ are all run through in a breakneck pace leaving drummer and founding member Niclas Svensson completely drenched in sweat. There’s a sense of unity between the two bands; a shared ethos – a commitment to authenticity, energy and connection which becomes apparent when The Headlines Kerry Bomb joins the Baboons on stage for ‘Rolling’:
Leaving the stage with ‘Lost You in a Second’ the crowd will have none of it and when the band return with ‘Oddball’ for a lengthy encore the entire venue turns into a collective friendly chaos which lasts all the way ‘til the evening comes to a close with ‘Me, Myself and I’ after an hefty hour and a half on full throttle. What really defines The Baboon Show is the connection between band and crowd. They don’t create distance – they erase it.
