Welsh punk band take risks with their music in their own way!
Describing themselves as a six-piece punk rock band with a bad ska habit, King Goon are based in South Wales. Being part Welsh myself, I am always very intrigued by and want to listen to Welsh punk bands, as there aren’t many around.
King Goon have released a couple of EPs, and released their first album ‘Admit Nothing! Deny Everything! Lie! Lie! Lie!’ in 2022. Now they are back with their second, 11 track album ‘Oh My!’ dropping on 11th April 2026, and are hosting a launch event to celebrate its release at Hippos, High Street, Swansea the same day – which is free to attend! The album was recorded, engineered and mixed by Rooster at Mwnci Studios, Pembrokeshire. Mastered by Gethin John at Hafod Mastering, Cowbridge.
King Goon say: “The story starts back two years ago, when we all packed our bags, decamped from our various south/mid-Walian boltholes, and took a meandering route way out west to the beautiful county of Pembrokeshire, in three vehicles packed to the roof racks with gear and Goons. Five days and nights we were there; during that time, we completed recording all the music you hear on the album.”

King Goon released their first single from the album, ‘Filthy Stinking Rich’ on 1st February 2026, with a radio edit version as well. The band report: “We’ve had a change of personnel since that video was filmed and the album recorded, with our long-time guitar player Keith Robertson hanging up his axe to spend more time with his young family. We cast a wide net, looking for his replacement, but eventually went close to home and recruited Morgan Breeze-Nelmes, who is a cousin (of sorts) to myself and my brother James, the bass player.”
Their second single release ‘A Glorious Day On The Welsh Riviera’ came out on 27th March 2026, with a lyric video drawn and put together by Drew Hamley of Unit 15 Productions:
Now on to the review! It’s very different to what I’m used to. It has a lot of ska which I love. The hints of country, folk, and classic rock are not my usual liking, but some of it surprisingly works! I definitely prefer the more punk and ska heavy tracks. I love when bands take risks though, it shows how brave and unique they are, and King Goon is one of those bands. There are some catchy dance moments which make you want to jump up and move along with them.
My favourite track on ‘Oh My!’ has to be ‘Fuck ‘Em All’, and not just because of the name. It’s more punk and ska forward, with some goth and classic rock in there too. The lyrics are easy to sing along with and certainly help me to let out some anger towards people!
