Punk Rock Creatives Podcast – January update!

New guests, new complilations, and uniting to support those in desperate need..

This month I’ve been digging through interview requests and starting to line up conversations, with a sweet black coffee in one hand and typing up messages and emails with the other. The fact that people are reaching out means everything. Keep the messages coming – if it takes me a while to reply, know that I will get there. I’d rather take the time to properly process each request than rush through them just to hit a schedule.

If you haven’t heard of Punk Rock Creatives before, it’s a podcast run by Marie Repulsive (me – pleased to meet you!). I’ve played in bands for years – some you might’ve heard of, some maybe not. Right now, I’m a one-person operation, chatting with creatives who are punks or connected to punk in some way. So far I’ve spoken to musicians, artists, designers, poets, and writers, and it’s brought people together from all over the country.

At its core – safety pin in the heart, fire in the soul – Punk Rock Creatives exist to build community. It’s about amplifying voices, sharing experiences, and reminding each other that we’re not doing this alone. Every interview is part of a bigger picture. The aim is to actually listen, to connect, and to let people tell their stories properly – showing up as you are and making something real, even when life gets messy.

Ahead of the launch of Season 2, the first interviews are already underway… but who could they be?

So far, I’ve had the honour of speaking with a member of an infamous Irish punk band—a true punk rocker who has given so much to the scene. And one interview I can talk about here, because it’s important in so many ways.

Trev and Lara from Active Slaughter are two deeply passionate people. Active Slaughter have been around since the early 2000s, operating with pure heart and soul. They’re on the front line, fighting for animal rights and human rights, and their strength and commitment have always been inspiring.

Lara, one of the band’s vocalists, spoke about her experiences living in Gaza, and the families she remains in contact with and continues to support. The insight she shared about what’s happening there is beyond words – this is something you need to listen to. I thought I was going to cry, but I’ve learned that crying doesn’t stop history or the suffering.

When Lara began speaking about the genocide in Palestine, my body reacted in a familiar way. My chest tightened. My throat closed. I didn’t cry. My grandmother survived a genocide. Her village – where my family had lived for generations – was erased so completely that it no longer belongs to the country she once called home. I grew up in the long shadow of that loss, surrounded by grief that had nowhere to go.

Listening to Lara, I wasn’t learning something new. I was recognising a pattern – a pattern of rich, greedy, entitled people causing endless suffering to those who don’t fit their mould. Lara and Trev have put together a download only compilation record featuring over 60 bands, some with new and unreleased stuff, ‘Ceasefire? There Ain’t No Fucking Ceasefire!‘ to raise money for the families she’s supporting in Gaza. I’ve seen and shared videos through a mutual friend, and these families need as much help and solidarity as possible.

You can help by donating money, as much as you can, the proceeds from the compilation go to that family in Gaza and help them to buy the things we take for granted. You have to listen to Lara’s words to learn more. This interview is essential listening. If you only hear one episode this year, make it this one.

Speaking of compilations – we’ll also be releasing a Punk Rock Creatives compilation, in collaboration with Dammit Records in support of the animals at Protected Paws Animal Rescue. I promise this isn’t turning into a Bob Geldof “give us your money” moment… No actually – give your money to the abandoned animals and to the people of Gaza, who need all the help they can get.

Here’s the plan. A way to help everyone. For many of us, the first payday of the year is landing. Since our compilation isn’t out just yet, grab the Active Slaughter compilation first. Then, when the second payday rolls around, pick up the Punk Rock Creatives Podcast compilation. Every compilation bought helps a living being. And honestly, that’s more punk rock than anything.

Just one last thing – if anyone can get to The Club Cafe in Chelmsford on the 22nd of February, Punk Rock Creatives Podcast is one of the podcasts being featured at Essex Podcast Festival.
