Live review: The Headlines – Medley, Malmö, Sweden 24th Oct 2025

Celebrating a new split EP release (with fellow Swedish punks Sator) at a capacity hometown show!

The relentless Headlines are back, with a new split EP in conjunction with Swedish punk legends Sator, and are celebrating with a sold-out gig in their hometown of Medley. Unfortunately, due to other commitments, Sator were unable to attend tonight’s release party.

The evening opens with Skatecore youngsters S.L.U.G. blasting through an impressively tight set of original songs at breakneck speed. Considering all the members are in their teens, they show impressive maturity in both performance and songwriting. Standout songs from their set are ‘Skate Sesh’ and ‘Slippin’ Away’.

Although they played a free outdoor gig in Malmö just a couple of days after returning from their successful stint at Rebellion Festival in August, we’re not usually spoiled with gigs by The Headlines. Currently they focus primarily on mainland Europe, where they’ve started to build a following that is growing more or less daily. So, when the lights are dimmed and the background music is turned off, the anticipation from the packed crowd is almost palpable.

The Headlines kick off with a rip-roaring version of the title track from last year’s epic album ‘Homewrecker’, which continues straight into ‘Spirit’, followed by ‘That’s Life’, without leaving any room for either the band or the enthusiastic crowd to catch their breath! As always, vocalist Kerry Bomb is as close to the edge of the stage as possible, as well as on the dance floor in front.

Bass vixen Sofie Ward storms the stage like a hurricane, while drummer Pete Rasmussen keeps up the pace and pushes the band to the limit. The new single ‘Fucked Up’ is already a classic, up there with ‘Warpaint’ and ‘Punk Rock Radio’.

A night of celebration calls for some special guests – although Sator couldn’t make it, their vocalist and guitarist Chips Kiesby, who has also been a permanent fixture in The Boys for many years, is roped in to sing ‘Thanks for Nothing at All’ from the split EP. As if that wasn’t enough, Stry Terrarie, who released the very first Swedish punk single with Kriminella Gitarer in 1977, joins the band for a stellar version of his ‘Malmö City’.

In the End’ finds Kerry singing in the middle of a circle pit, with a vast majority of the capacity crowd joining, in whilst Jake Lundtofte & Peter Henriksson trash it out on their guitars. Ending the encores with ‘Upstarts’ makes for a brilliant finale to an epic performance.

Make sure not to miss The Headlines if they show up in your neighbourhood – live gigs don’t get much better than this!
