Margate duo Lennie and Ray start 2024 with a caffeine dose on new single C.O.F.F.E.E.
There are not enough punk songs about coffee. There I said it. Sure there’s been ‘Coffee Mug‘ by The Descendents and maybe ‘Black Coffee‘ by Black Flag but really, every punk band should be singing about it. So, thank you Pink Suits for righting that wrong.
At the tail end of 2023, the punk pair brought us a minute and a half of punk-fuelled rage with track ‘Refuse the Rules‘, a taster of their forthcoming album ‘Dystopian Hellscape‘ (released 1st April).
Now, a mere 2 weeks into January and with everyone probably needing a bit of a pick me up, the band drop their new single and it’s all about their addiction to the brown nectar of the gods….
“The song is about Coffee. Which is one of a few addictions in our life. One of the less harmful ones. And there is a real necessity to being able to scream together with frantic and childlike energy about it. To have some fun in the face of it all. A lot of our music and life is punk, protest, politics, sex, drugs and rock and roll, and – if you look closely enough – they are all hidden inside this daft little song… So, get learning the words and get ready to go faster when you see us play it live!”
Never intended to be recorded or released, it’s the duo’s soundcheck song that fans of the band may recognise from their live sets, and has become a firm favourite.
Whilst on its surface ‘C.O.F.F.E.E’ may seem superficial (essentially based around theatre vocal warm ups), it actually touches on some poignant themes for pink suits.
It’s a racing, stripped back track that lets the vocal snarl and fuzzy guitar lead the way, like the proverbial does of caffeine.
Pink Suits are a formidable force: equal parts righteous anger and passion for social justice with a wry sense of humour and joyous penchant for the flamboyant. They’ve shared the stage with the likes of Bob Vylan, Menstrual Cramps and Lambrini Girls, fully at home nestled in amongst the UK’s most exciting acts.
As well as a new album coming our way in April (a follow up to 2021’s ‘Political Child‘) the band will be embarking on their own headline tour to follow the album release that will take them all over the country so make sure you see them live!
‘C.O.F.F.E.E.’ is out now.
‘Dystopian Hellscape‘ will be released on 1st April 2024.
