Punk legend, Patti Smith, has shown her gratitude for the medical treatment she received during her sudden hospitalisation in Italy.
The 67 year old punk icon has had to cancel her Italian gigs last week, and has since taken to social media to reveal her feelings about the incident.
Scheduled to perform at Bologna’s Duse Theatre last week, the punk poet was unexpectedly admitted to Maggiore Hospital in the same city after taking ill with a yet-to-be-revealed symptoms. Initial reports suggested that the artist’s show was cancelled due to a “serious illness,” but it was later confirmed that she was given a clean bill of health.
Smith, shared a photo with the hospital staff on Instagram, expressing her disappointment about the cancellations and her gratitude towards the medical team for their care.
In her message, the Because The Night singer thanked everyone at the hospital for their help and guidance, apologised for the postponement of her Bologna and Venice concerts, and assured her fans she would return to fulfil her performing duties.
She extended her gratitude to worldwide medical teams, appreciating their selfless service, especially in life-threatening situations.
The artist thanked her fans for their love and support, acknowledging that while she was receiving excellent care, she was aware of those without access to proper healthcare. She committed to following her doctor’s orders and resting.
On her Instagram Stories, Patti Smith urged her followers to donate to the international medical humanitarian organisation, Medecins Sans Frontieres. She shared a promotional video for the charity.
Smith is set to perform at Brooklyn Steel in New York City at the end of the year. These shows are scheduled for the 29th and 30th of December, with the latter coinciding with her birthday. Before that, she is booked to perform at The Salt Shed in Chicago on the 27th of December.
Next year, she will return to Europe to hold two concerts at Dublin’s iconic Vicar Street on June 27th and 28th.
