Fidlar will be tearing the holiday season up with acoustic anthems, brand-new tunes, and a whole lot of Christmas chaos. Brace yourselves for a night of pure punk spirit and festive mayhem!
Get ready for a festive frenzy as Fidlar, the punk and garage rock maestros from Los Angeles, gear up for the second edition of their Christmas extravaganza, “FIDmas.” Frontman Zac Carper spills the beans on this Yuletide tradition that emerged from his bassist mate Brandon Schwartzel’s Christmas obsession.
“Brandon is obsessed with Christmas,” Carper declares, setting the tone for the wild Christmas spectacle that awaits fans at Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown on Friday, Dec. 15. It’s not your typical festive soirée; Fidlar will be belting out acoustic tunes, Christmas classics, and some exclusive B-sides currently confined to YouTube.
But let’s not get too cozy with the Christmas lights just yet. Fidlar, known for their booze-soaked anthems, has been busy shaking things up since their last full album in 2019. Their raucous EP, ‘That’s Life,’ dropped in March, a product of a pandemic induced DMT ceremony and some studio magic at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La studio.
Carper spills the beans on the studio setup, calling it “crazy” and highlighting the novelty of recording by the beach. This beachy vibe, he claims, is “a very Fidlar thing.” With three albums under their belts, Fidlar has experimented with various genres, with each album showcasing a different side of the band.
And don’t think they’ve been slacking off just because there’s been no full album release lately. Carper, now sober, feels more emotionally liberated, leading to more honest songwriting. He draws inspiration from indie rocker Alex G, aiming for consistent music releases.
But what about the live shows, the beating heart of any true rock band? Carper, a Slipknot, Korn, and Deftones fan, emphasises the importance of making heavy music live. Fidlar, born in the chaotic energy of house shows, brings that same energy to any stage they conquer.
The band’s recent UK tour ended with a sold-out show in Paris, where Carper was amazed at the global resonance of their music. Fidlar’s recent singles like ‘Nudge,’ ‘Move On,’ and ‘Get Free‘ nod to their heavy roots but incorporate pop choruses and introspective lyrics reflecting the struggles of those in their 20s and 30s.
Amidst the single releases, a new EP titled ‘Unplug‘ showcases stripped-down versions of their hits. The upcoming single, ‘Orange County,’ delves into the bittersweet reality of abandoned dreams and heartbreaks, slated for release next year.
And for those hungry for more, Carper hints at the possibility of another full-length album on the horizon. But for now, the focus is on what they love most—playing live shows.
So, mark your calendars for Fidlar’s FIDmas on Friday, Dec. 15, at Pappy & Harriet’s. It’s not your typical Christmas gig—it’s a wild ride with a band unafraid to evolve and keep the party alive.
