A fire has gone out too soon - RIP Kevin 'Geordie' Walker
Sad news has shocked friends, fans and fellow musicians as it was revealed that Geordie Walker, guitarist of Killing Joke, had passed away at 6.30 this morning in Prague, following a massive stroke he suffered on Friday.
Songwriter and guitarist in Killing Joke for over 46 years, Geordie’s contribution to music cannot be overstated. From ‘Wardance‘ and ‘Requiem‘ on Killing Joke’s self titled debut album in 1980, the band’s unique blend of rock and post-punk with their own twist sounded like nothing else, and won them legions of fans who wanted to hear something different from the mainstream.

Walker said that “The guitar should convey some sort of emotion” – nobody did this better than him. The perfect backdrop to Jaz Coleman‘s vocals and lyrics, Geordie’s style was understated – no flashy solos – yet he conveyed Killing Joke’s immensely powerful music through chords and melodies in a way that nobody else has replicated.
Following a sold out show in London’s Royal Albert Hall in March this year, Killing Joke had planned to return to the studio to record new music, and to play further shows in 2024. This is all but impossible without Geordie. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, band mates, friends, and fans around the world. Rest In Peace x

Album Review: Omega Tribe prove ‘Power Pop Punk Rock’ has a future!

Usually found jumping around down the front at gigs, I also relish taking photos and videos, singing, speaking with fellow music fans, and asking musicians the questions nobody else does. Writing about my favourite bands and connecting with people who love music too keeps me more-or-less sane! I’ve worked for over 25 years at a video production company, mainly filming live music events, therefore I have an additional backstage perspective on the scene.
