Rising Punk Power: The Meffs Electrify Yellow Arch Studios on the 'Broken Brains Tour' in Sheffield.
Earlier on this year I saw them open the Empress Ballroom at Rebellion Punk Festival in Blackpool to the biggest opening day crowd in over 15 years, so it was no surprise to see a packed Yellow Arch Studios welcome Lily (Vocals/Guitar) and Lewis (Drums/some vocals) to Sheffield on their “Broken Brains Tour” which is taking them all around the country and then into Europe in the New Year.
They rather quirkily opened their set with a haunting rendition of ‘Breathe’ by the Prodigy, which I’m sure the late Keith Flint would have appreciated before launching into their set list containing many tracks from their Broken Britain Part 1(Dec ’22) and 2 (Feb ’23) albums.
Their hard-hitting in-your-face lyrics are barbed with political messages and underlying commentary on the demise of our society, which struck a chord with the crowd which Lily had in the palm of her hand, and it wasn’t long before there was a midweek mosh pit on the go.
If I had to pick a favourite, it would probably be ‘So Modern’ although there were several other contenders such as ‘Get Real.’
A great gig and a memorable night, punk is in very safe hands with bands of this calibre emerging. They are one of the many “new wave” punk bands to look out for, catch them soon as it won’t be long before they’re headlining at less intimate venues.
