New band release an authentic and raw EP!
A new band have emerged from Hereford, UK. YŪNGOLD formed back in late 2023, however, vocalist and guitarist Frank Mooney and guitarist Oscar Featherstone found the spark for ‘Force Of Habit’ back in 2022. Sitting in a log cabin in Frank’s garden, the pair would exchange funk and jazz riffs over many coffees and sparking waters.
A volatile fuzz pedal was introduced, creating a rough demo of ‘Completely Numb’, which is one of the tracks featured on the EP. The pair met drummer Joe Shellard and bassist Ash Greenway at a local jam night, and immediately were asked to join the band.

Playing their first gig at Hereford’s indie gem, The Jam Factory in May 2024, by July that year, they had recorded four tracks for the venue’s Live From The Little Green Room sessions. A live video of the whole set was released on 21st October 2024, streaming across different platforms, including YouTube:
The band’s influences include; The Dead Pirates, Metz, and Pixies.
They released their debut EP ‘Force Of Habit’ on 2nd May 2025, which consists of four brilliantly unique and raw tracks. It was recorded at Art Studios in Hereford, UK.

First of all, before I start this review, I’d like to thank the band for asking for me personally to review their EP. What an absolute honour it is to be asked! And truthfully, I am very glad I was, because what a great EP it is! Such a pleasure reviewing ‘Force Of Habit’ and I will definitely be playing it on repeat!

It certainly is a unique one. Lots of emotion, rawness, expression, authenticity, sharpness, and iconic alternative rock! It is intense, danceable in parts, and exhilarating. Frank shows a lot of emphasis and emotion in his voice, with the guitars, drums, and bass complimenting each lyric presented to them.
There’s cheering and laughter from the band at the end of last track ‘Cult‘, which shows the listeners they had fun recording ‘Force Of Habit’!
YŪNGOLD are a band to check out if you haven’t already!
