Hardcore band issue reimagined songs from their debut album, plus new material!
We sincerely hope that KNIVES are on your listening radar! From Bristol, UK, the band released their debut album ‘Glitter’ on 22nd May 2025, which I reviewed. They have since dropped a reimagining of it, which will be released in two parts, the first, ‘REGLITTER 1’ was released on 19th November 2025 via Marshall Records. Its counterpart ‘REGLITTER 2’ will be out in Spring 2026.
KNIVES were heavily influenced by Paramore’s ‘Re: This Is Why’, inspiring the band to collaborate with a selection of their favourite artists, and to rework some of the songs from their album, including unreleased material!
The singles on the EP include: ‘CORAZÓN’ featuring C.A Francis of DITZ, ‘SUGAR’ featuring Carson Pace of The Callous Daoboys, ‘the dagger’ featuring Death Goals and ‘phd’ featuring Chest.
Meet KNIVES:
Jay Schottlander – Vocals
Erin Cook – Drums
Ben Marshall – Bass
Dan Farren – Guitar
Josh Cook – Guitar
Tegan O’Connor – Sax
“We approached Cal (Francis) from DITZ and Carson from The Callous Daoboys, as we’re big fans of their vocals and lyricism and knew they could add to what felt missing”, shares co-founding member and drummer Erin Cook. “We’re now fortunate enough to be going on tour with both bands, so hopefully we will be able to bring them to life on stage.”
“Since we started touring, we’ve been lucky to play multiple shows with Death Goals and Chest., who have become good friends of ours. We wanted them involved in the project as we’re so excited about their individual sounds and knew they’d recreate the songs into something completely original.”
Vocalist and co-founder Jay Schottlander adds, “Death Goals’ response to recreating ‘the dagger’ especially took us by surprise. We were all expecting a super heavy hardcore song with massive guitar riffs; instead, we got huge-sounding electronic drums and synths. It was so fun hearing it for the first time.”
Now what you’ve all been waiting for, the review! I have to say, I am not disappointed. They may be short songs, but they hold so much passion! You can tell the band have worked hard on the tracks and the guest vocals on each track make them all so different and unique. I listened to ‘the dagger’ and ‘phd’ from the album first, to compare the tracks with the new versions on the EP. The new version of ‘the dagger’ has a more electronic feel to it but it hasn’t lost its hardcore heavy moments! The new version of ‘phd’ has a more upbeat sound and a jazz effect with the sax but retains its full hardcore energy.
The whole EP is hardcore, heavy, loud, passionate, and has so many unique features. I am looking forward to hearing part 2 when it’s released in Spring! Go check out ‘REGLITTER 1’ now – streaming links HERE!
KNIVES hit the road in February with the Callous Daoboys across Europe and the UK, then cross to Ireland for a short tour in March – TICKETS HERE.
