Global Citizens Live 2021 announces line-up for 24 hour event.

Punk icons Green Day will join a musical menagerie of this century’s most adored musicians for this massive global event. September’s 24 Hour Global Citizen Live Event aims to “unite the world to defend the planet and defeat poverty.”

Performances from Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish, Shawn Mendes, BTS, Coldplay, The Weeknd, Lorde, Usher, Doja Cat and more will be taking place in all corners of the globe. Covering Lagos, London, Los Angeles, New York City to Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Seoul and Sydney. More locations will soon be announced.

This isn’t Green Day’s first appearance for Global Citizens playing the festival in NYC 2017.

Global Citizen Live will take place on Saturday, 25 September. The event will host simultaneous music events live to air around the world. The 24 hr event will be telecast on ABC, ABC News Live, BBC, FX, iHeartRadio, Hulu, YouTube, Twitter, and more.

Global Citizen Live is part of Global Citizen’s overarching Recovery Plan for the World, a year-long campaign to help end COVID-19 by calling on governments, philanthropists, and the private sector for financial commitments to kickstart a global recovery.

The campaign, powered by Global Citizens around the world, will be taking action together with governments, corporations, and philanthropists. Its mission is to enact change to defeat poverty and defend the planet before it’s too late.

“COVID-19 has drastically reversed the progress toward achieving the United Nations’ Global Goals, pushing upwards of 160 million people back into extreme poverty,” said Hugh Evans, CEO of Global Citizen. “There are now more than 40 million people on the brink of famine. Progress on climate change has halted, as the majority of the Fortune 500 fail to set science-based carbon reduction targets.

“We must rectify the damage done and hold world leaders and businesses accountable for ensuring that the entire world recovers from this pandemic together. ‘Equitable recovery’ is not an act of charity — it is the only way we can ensure a fighting chance at achieving a sustainable world free from extreme poverty.”

This month, Green Day will be hitting the road with Fall Out Boy and Weezer on the long-awaited Hella Mega Tour. Tour dates and ticket information HERE.
