The Massachusetts quartet return with the aural equivalent of a quadruple espresso!
Blink and you’ll miss this one! At only ten minutes long, ‘I Think It’s Time To Leave…’ doesn’t stick around, but the passion and energy contained within is certainly helping us get off the sofa and actually DO things on these hot, lazy days. This EP is the follow-up to Already Dead’s 2024 second album ‘Something Like A War’, and whilst that record saw the band dabble in various styles of punk, they’re keeping things mostly hardcore this time around.
Opener ‘I’ll Go Mine’ is a great minute-long anthem to saying goodbye to a toxic relationship; a slice of warp-speed skate punk with a winning chorus, whilst lead single ‘Time’ is a superb showcase for singer/guitarist Brandon Bartlett’s enjoyably raw-edged vocals. We want to be down the front, in the pit, roaring that “Something’s gotta give!” refrain back into his face – because of course he’d love that.
‘Gettin’ By’ is another catchy slice of blue-collar punk rock, reminiscent of The Lawrence Arms or Against Me! at their most direct, and it’s followed by the harder and darker ‘Sick Talk’. The latter could almost be a prime-era Poison Idea out-take; a gloriously pissed-off ode to the folks in your life who simply will not shut up about themselves – let’s face it, most of us can relate to the fury within!
It all comes to a close with the three-minute epic (by this EP’s standards, anyway) ‘Nothin’ Wrong’, which kind of wraps up everything that’s musically great about Already Dead, adds lyrics about remaining positive in the face of adversity, and spews forth with plenty of grit and a sense of determination.
Who’d have thought that a band called Already Dead would be brimming with such vitality? We hope they don’t mean that ‘I Think It’s Time To Leave…’ title literally, because with songs this good, we’re looking forward to getting better acquainted with the band. Do yourselves a favour and join us!
