Album review: Peesh illustrates another year with ‘The Perennial Effect II: Seasons’

A labyrinthine punk rock journey into the workings of an extraordinary musical mind!

Singer-songwriter-guitarist-drummer Peesh returns with another fascinatingly creative album, filled with 12 songs from his ongoing annual solo music project, exploring the workings & noises in his head and heart. He says of ‘The Perennial Effect II: Seasons‘; “The rules are there are no rules. Every release is different from the next. Featuring brand new songs as well as rare tracks from the vaults that never saw the light of day. It’s a perfectly satisfying vehicle for me to put out as much music as I can for as many people who want to join me on this sonic journey.”

Peesh has been playing his original punk songs since his first band Junkster in 2003. Now currently writing & performing with LoGOz, as one half of the punk-poetic fused Cherry & Peesh, and recently with new band Monkeys Blood, he has released a number of DIY-produced albums/EPs from his home studio. Last year he put out ‘The Perennial Effect‘ in January 2025. This next instalment is split across the four seasons, Peesh having released one single from the album at the beginning of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

Spring has sprung, and Peesh is coming out from ‘Under the Radar‘. Our “rabid culture” has inspired several pointed and precise lyrics which he delivers hip hop style to a rockin’ guitar backing. ‘Trauma‘ has a much punkier sound, and it’s about – well – trauma! This song accurately depicts the struggle of the therapeutic process in trying to heal. There’s a brutal guitar and drums dual attack in punk banger ‘Sounds of Violence‘. This is Peesh at his catchy best!

Heading into Summer, the world has changed as in-person protests are increasingly legislated against by authoritarian governments. ‘The Revolution Will Be Streamed Live‘ is Peesh‘s observation that the internet is a very dangerous platform to be fighting our battles upon.. ‘Traces‘ is about the insidious nature of track and trace, data gathering and its exploitation. Peesh sings “We don’t choose the intrusion. So save me, erase me, So you don’t find my traces”. A different perspective – no doubt inspired by the Joy Division classic – Peesh swaps out ‘Love’ for ‘Hate’ on ‘Hate Will Tear Us Apart‘. It’s raw and angry, yet very introspective – allowing hate to tear you apart is not the way to go!

The Autumn season begins with Peesh‘s Halloween single release ‘The Horrors of Love‘. Serial killers and murderers stalk their victims and kill them in order to possess them, thinking this is love – beware!! ‘Modern World Wars‘ are of course fought online. This all-out rocker tackles the echo chamber of everyone listening to their own truth but refusing to take on board any other input, enabling the propaganda spreaders “Hiding your agenda behind your screen” to incite prejudicial attitudes. In case you’re wondering (I certainly was!) ‘Cherophobia‘ is “an irrational fear or aversion to being happy”. Peesh has come up with the perfect melody to illustrate this masochistic thought pattern!

Finally, we head into the cold and darkness of Winter. Peesh looks back upon his life in ‘Young Blood Runs‘, recalling his youthful enthusiasm for music, playing in bands and now trying to chanel that into current and future projects. Young blood definitely still runs through his veins! ‘Loathe‘ is a darker song about an uncertain future.. but Peesh urges us to “not be beat” by adversity. Taking “comfort in chaos now” under your ‘Discomfort Blanket‘, where “to be happy you have to hurt”, there’s a real sense of transformation through the pain.

We honestly don’t know how Peesh comes up with such a gargantuan output – the man is a songwriting dynamo! He’s clearly driven by greater things than most mortals.. This is yet another highly impressive album from his mighty pen, guitar and drums – bravo Peesh!
